WorkSnug launched

WorkSnug is a new Augmented Reality App for the iPhone 3GS, that shows you the best and nearest places to work in the city. A revolutionary interface imposes information of the nearest Snugs (cafes, library’s, hot spots, hubs etc) onto the world around you, as seen through the video camera on the iPhone.

Information on each working environment, including wifi availability, atmosphere and even the quality of the coffee and service are immediately available to the travelling worker. Launched in London, WorkSnug will soon be available in Berlin and San Fransico, and more cities to come.

Studiohead created the identity for Worksnug, and are pleased to have some of our work sitting on our cherished iPhones. We are also taking a role in developing the concept into a world of future possibilities, more to come!!! Please see more at www.worksnug.com

you can download the App from iTunes with this link:

Close Up – Exhibition design

Close Up Exhibition

Studiohead designed and produced this years contribution to the London Design Festival from the Helen Hamlyn Centre Royal College of Art.

CLOSE UP

The exhibition included the results of this years Helen Hamlyn Centre inclusive design research projects, and a retrospective show of past projects and design firms to have launched from work at the Centre.

Studiohead came up with a range of silhouettes to present each of the individual projects. The shape of each silhouettes provides a context for each exhibit, giving the visitor an immediate introduction to the work.

The silhouettes also provided a mechanism to give equal presence and weight to all the projects, whatever their size or medium, within the exhibition space.

The exhibition received a lot of praise for an original and cost effective design.

Margaret Durkan of the RCA said: “I can’t thank you enough for the professional, calm, confident and organised way you handled the whole exhibition, from design to take down.  It is hard to believe how smoothly it went this year – thanks to you both. All your efforts were much appreciated. You are certainly a skilled and talented duo and I hope Studiohead goes from strength to strength.”

Distributed Simulation at BMJ careers fair

DS simulated surgery is exhibited at the BMJ medical careers fair in Islington this weekend to entice aspiring surgeons with a hyper-realistic gall blader removal!

Distributed Simulation goes to Malaga

Our work with the Distributed Simulation project gets pride of place and an excellent reception at the AMEE (Association for Medical Education) conference in Malaga 30th Aug- 2nd Sept. Studiohead presented the design challenges and process in the presentation session.

Portable Operating Theatre on BBC news

Dr. Roger Kneebone present the Distrited Simulation concept for a piece by the BBC. He mentions many of the aspects that Studiohead designed and made, including the operating theatre lamp and the sound and video control interface.  Click here to view this on the BBC site.

DS at Healthcare Innovation Expo

Studiohead will be showcasing the Portable Operating Theatre at Healthcare Innovation Expo, 18th & 19 June in London’s Excel. We will be part of Dr. Roger Kneebone’s team on the Imperial College Stand (Stand 38), where the Distributed Simulation concept will be demonstrated with a simulated gall-bladder removal amongst other scenarios. Visitors will be able to observe and participate, and Studiohead designers will be on hand to discuss the design of the environment and equipment.

Studiohead in Toronto

canada-welcome2

Studiohead design partners Cian Plumbe and Matt Harrison took the Distributed Simulation project to the Health Proffesions Education 2009 conference in Toronto in May.

The work was presented by Dr. Roger Kneebone of Imperial College School of Medicine in a workshop, and in his gala-dinner keynote speech in Frank Gehry’s Art Gallery of Ontario.

Matt and Cian went to contribute to the event by explaining the design philosophy behind the Distributed Simulation to leading thinkers in the target market for this product.

canada-speach

A full medical simulation of a central line insertion was performed for the audience within the DS environment, configured to represent an intensive care unit. This was held in the splendid surroundings of the University of Toronto’s Oxbridge style debates room. The audience and participants were successfully drawn into a believable and tense simulation.

ds-onshow

The DS concept was met with general enthusiasm, resulting fruitful discussions and purchase enquiries. Toronto University is widely recognised for its work on simulation in medical education, and its was great to share our work and get feedback from these experts.

Toronto is an excellent city, and I highly recommend a visit. If you go, do check out the Distillery district. It is a converted distillery that is now home to a host of design, art and theatre activities.

Moja Tor.ba

moja torba - ladies bag

Studiohead’s Matt Harrison led a creative team in Sarajevo to create this unique ladies leather bag.

Maja Torba uses the high quality leather work of Damir Huseinovic, in combination with a variety of fabrics created by the other members of the centre. The result is a simple design, but one that allows each bag produced to be unique and highly treasured.

The design is a simple ladies two pocket shoulder bag with detachable straps. The bag can be ‘inverted’ so that the exterior surface is either the simple, elegant and durable leather, or the highly individual and vibrant hand-painted silk.

The straps can also be attached to the bag in a variety of combinations, to maximise the comfort of the bag to as many people and as many situations as possible. The design allows for single or double shoulder support, expansion and contraction of the bag, and back-pack style wearing.

The workshop was part of the All-inclusive Sarajevo project, run by Julia Cassim at the Helen Hamlyn Centre, and funded by the British Council.
